What is Romance?

This morning I was going through my normal blogroll and checking out what all the people I stalk daily had to say.. :) I was reading Bianca Juarez's In The Name of Love. Her topic today was about Romance. She spoke about how the definition of romance was so awful, and speculated whether or not romance was for women what porn is for men. She asked her readers to define romance in their own words, so that she could explore the topic further. {If you don't read Bianca's blog, please check it out.. She is constantly challenging me and I'm sure you would enjoy it too!}

As a wedding photographer, I live in a very romanticized world. I spend hours looking at weddings and researching them. I believe that weddings are a beautiful and personal event that should be the most romantic day of a girls life. But then I really started thinking about what Bianca had said. What was my definition of romance? Not necessarily candlelight dinners, and walks on the beach..

This sparked another thought train focused on my relationship with my boyfriend. I decided that romance for me is simpler than what some may find romantic. I feel loved when  the person I love shows me that they care for me. Devin always goes out of his way to make sure I feel cared for. Whether it was the time that I had a terrible headache at the hospital waiting for a friend to finish having some painful treatment, and he drove over to bring me some advil and a bottle of water... Or the time that he spent 7 hours driving me in the rain and traffic to pick up a flash I needed to shoot a wedding, and then took me to a nice dinner afterwards... Or the time he cooked me homemade macaroni and cheese when I spent the day shooting a wedding and he knew I would be hungry after. To me it's the little things that are the most romantic. So, I'm interested to know. What is your definition of romance?

But we cannot forget the most romantic relationship of all. As part of the church we are called the "bride" of the Lord. He loved us so unconditionally that he died an excruciatingly painful death so that we could be made perfect in His love, and spend eternity with Him in Heaven. So let your heart be filled with His love today.

Here are a few photos I snapped during a recent shoot. Enjoy, and have a blessed day.
